New member firm in East Africa for BDO

BDO International, 27.9.2009

BDO, the world’s fifth largest accountancy network, is pleased to announce the admission of a new member firm in East Africa, comprising Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, effective 8 October 2009.

The 3 firms that make up BDO East Africa were established in quick succession in the 1990’s and consolidated into a single firm in 2009. Since then the firm’s revenues have risen steadily, and for the year ended 30 June 2009, turnover amounted to €2.5 million.

Operating from one office in each territory – Nairobi in Kenya, Kampala in Uganda and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania – the firm has 9 partners and nearly 100 staff. Services offered include audit and accountancy, as well as tax and corporate finance advice, together with other business advisory services.

Serving clients across a broad range of industries, their client base covers local and international entities, as well as a number listed on the Nairobi stock exchange, and their
high-profile client list includes Eveready batteries, Synovate, L’Oreal, Wyeth Laboratories, CNBC, Oracle Corporation, Goodyear, J.P. Morgan (Pioneer Carbon), Chase Bank, Celtel (Zain) Africa, the United Nations Office of Project Services and the ICF Africa Trust.

BDO East Africa’s CEO Sandeep Khapre says: “Our vision in East Africa is to be recognised as the most trusted and respected of business advisers, offering services that always exceed our clients’ expectations. Our joining the BDO network, whose strength is in its strong, national roots and for whom client proximity is a fundamental attribute, represents a meeting of minds. Not only do we have a deep understanding of our clients’ local business needs, we now have, through BDO, access to knowledge of global industry developments and trends and, through collaboration with other member firms, can deliver the best possible professional advice to all our clients, multinational and domestic.

Says Jeremy Newman, CEO of BDO: “Africa is becoming an increasingly important continent, particularly to our clients in the natural resources sector. All of the partners in BDO East Africa are highly qualified and have many years of relevant experience, meaning that they will be able to contribute to BDO’s global reputation for informed, consistent and quality service delivery in every country in which we operate.”
